2012 Scout-O-Rama

This past weekend, the Cub Scouts of Pack 121 joined other units from the Hoosier Trails Council in the 2012 Scout-O-Rama, held at the Monroe County Fairgrounds.  Our boys demonstrated the Rain Gutter Regatta to guests and other Scouter’s, and also handed out Blue ribbons to anyone who participated in the races.  The boys also got to participate in other activities hosted by other Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops.  Despite the tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warnings, everyone had a safe and fun weekend!

Following the Scout-O-Rama activities on Saturday, our Pack conducted our Graduation Ceremony.  Our Tigers are now Wolves, our Wolves are now Bears, our Bears joined the Webelos 1 ranks, and our Webelos 1 scouts became Webelos 2 as they begin work towards their Arrow of Light and transition to the Boy Scouts.  Congratulations to everyone involved.  The boys did a wonderful job this past year!  Our Summer Program is shaping up well too.

May is a holiday for the Pack as they relax from a busy spring, but the Committee has already begun planning June-August activities and our Newsletter this month should be out soon with details of what the Pack will be up to over the summer.

Thanks to all of our leaders and parents for their support and guidance this past year!  Without you the Pack couldn’t move forward.  THANK YOU!!

March Pack Meeting – Crossover Ceremony

Thrusday night (March 22, 2012) we will be having a special Pack Meeting.  Instead of our normal monthly Pack Meeting we will be having a Cross-over Ceremony for one our Webelos Scouts who will be moving on to Boy Scouts.  This is a special ceremony as our Scout will also be receiving the Arrow of Light rank which he has earned by completing seven Activity Badges representing the seven trials of Akela’s people and he has learned the Laws of Scouting.

The program will be held at St. Paul’s Church and will begin with the Color Guard flag ceremony.  Following the Cross-over ceremony, the Pack will be providing a Pizza dinner for our Den families and guests.  The program should begin around 6:30pm and will conclude with a retiring of the colors sometime around 8:30pm.

Hope to see everyone there tomorrow to help us celebrate Evan’s achievements in Scouting.

Pack 121 Celebrates The Birth of Scouting

The annual celebration of Scoutings Birth Day is celebrated every year in February and for the Cub Scouts that means the Blue and Gold Banquet.  This year Pack 121 celebrated the Blue and Gold banquet with a special guest speaker.  Mrs. Kisters whose husband Sgt. Gerry Kisters was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart and many other accommodations for service and sacrifice during WWII honored the pack by sharing her husbands story.  She also brought along all of the medals he received for his courage and service.

What a wonderful story about not only an american hero, but also a former scout and resident of Bloomington, Indiana.  The Monroe County Airport, is named Kisters Field in honor of Sgt. Kisters.  The kids had a great time and what a great history lesson and honor it was to have Mrs. Kisters speak to the pack.
