Webelos 1 and 2 Activities

All reports indicate a great weekend at Brown County State Park for our Webelos 1 and 2 that were able to attend. Sounds like we have a couple of polar bear patches to award that weekend. According to what i have heard, we have several of our Webelos who have earned their Outdoorsman Award as well. Good Job!

Special thanks is owed to Jay Smith and Mark Wercsynski for planning and carrying out this campout. I witnessed part of their planning session and these two leaders put a lot of work and planning to make this weekend special.

I am so thankful to have the team of leaders we have this year, they are all Rockstars! I didn’t get to attend the Tiger, Bear and Wolf go see it’s this weekend so I am awaiting full reports there. I am sure they were awesome!

I did get to attend the Webelos 1 service project last night. We have a bunch of hard working Webelos 1 who did an awesome job, chest deep in leaves in some places and in the Dark to clean up leaves on the service project. It was great fun, I took some “Night Vision” camera pics that were awful but here are a couple that didn’t turn out to bad.

Tonight and the Weekend Pack Meeting

Just a reminder that there is no den meetings scheduled tonight as this weekend is our October/Halloween Pack Meeting. Several of us will be on hand at the Church from 6:30 to 7pm tonight for Popcorn Orders and Registrations. Remember tonight is the last chance to turn in your popcorn order forms and money. If you do not get your forms and money turned in to Heather tonight, you will not get your popcorn orders filled. So be sure you have everything ready to go and bring the completed forms and money to the Church tonight from 6:30-7pm.

Also Scott and I will be available to take new scout registrations as well as return scouts re-registration. I have applications on hand for both our scouts and leaders, so those of you who have volunteered to be leaders or assistant leaders but are waiting on me to get more application forms I have those now.

This weekend we will have our October/Halloween Pack Meeting! This is a very special meeting, as this is where most of our new scouts will be receiving their Bobcat Badges. There is a neat ceremony for them and will be the main focus of the day. We will be having several activities, including our Rain Gutter Regatta and the Pumpkin Carving contest. Each boy (and siblings as well) should bring a pumpkin and carving tools for the contest. A change of clothes may be a good idea too as we tend to get wet during the Regatta. The Pack is providing Hotdogs and drinks so families are asked to bring picnic style sides for dinner. The meeting will be at Shelter 5, of Karst Farm Park from 3pm-8pm. Look for more information later this week.

Thanks!

October Pack Meeting

Just a reminder to Pack Families, Next weekend (Saturday October, 27) we will be having our October Pack Meeting. This Pack meeting will be held at KarstFarmPark from 3pm to around 8pm, at Karst Farm Park Shelter #5. This is a partially enclosed shelter so scouts should dress accordingly for the weather. A change of clothes may be needed in case of rain, and we will be having a rain gutter regatta so sleeves tend to get wet. Since there is a Pack Meeting next week, we will not have Den Meetings on Monday. However we need to finish registrations AND Monday is the LAST DAY TO TURN IN YOUR POPCORN MONEY! Heather and Scott will be at the Church from 6:30p to around 7pm to collect popcorn money, registration fee’s and Popcorn order forms. If you do not get your popcorn orders and money to Heather by 7pm on Monday, you will not be getting order filled. So be sure to get those finished and in to Heather ASAP. I will also be there to help out, answer questions and to collect applications for new scouts and Leaders. I will have more Youth and Adult Applications if we need them.

For the Pack Meeting, we will be having a pitch in dinner, so families are asked to bring side items (picnic type sides), the Pack is providing hot dogs, drinks and table services. These should be picnic sides, we won’t be eating until around 6pm. Also, we will be having a Pumpkin Carving Contest so scouts (and siblings) should bring a Pumpkin and carving tools.

Activities planned:

  • Scavenger Hunt
  • Rain Gutter Regatta
  • Pumpkin Carving Contest
  • A Skit
  • Campfire with a Bobcat Ceremony

We are excited to have our Tiger Scouts serving as our Color Guard for the Pack Meeting. Also we have been given permission to have a mobile fire pit for our Campfire! So we will be able to have our Bobcat Ceremony at the Campfire! We have a bunch of new scouts, so we should have a very special Campfire.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks and see you next week!

Regards

August: Back To Scouting

August is not only back to school, but it’s also back to scouting.  Our Summer Program has been a success and we can look forward to a great scouting year.  Before we get going full steam ahead, we still have some summer business to take care of.  We are well on our way to earning the National Summertime Pack Award and we have several boys who are closing in on earning their individual summertime awards.  Our final Summer Event is Saturday August 25 .  We had planned to have a joint event with the Boy Scouts at St. Paul UMC, but the Troop is not going to be available to participate.  Also, there are other events going on at the Church including Soccer, so a Change of Venue will be coming our way so.   The details are still being planned out, but all of our boys and our leaders should plan to attend and this is a Class A event.

Regular Den meetings begin Monday August 27th.  We will have a new format for Den meetings, so things should flow a little better and be a little less hectic.  At least that is the plan.  The Bear Den and our Tigers are still needing leaders.  If your boys are going to be Tigers this year, we need our leadership team to come together.  Several parents have indicated they are interested in leading the Tiger Den, but we have yet to get Leader applications completed.  We need this ASAP so if you can check in with Cub Master Aaron at the August event (or sooner via email) that will be much appreciated.

Also, the Webelos 1 den is looking for a Den Leader and an Assistant Den leader.  Jason isn’t going to be able to lead the Webelos Den this year, so we have to get someone to step up and fill in as Leader as well as an Assistant.  We have had a couple of potential leaders talking about helping but like the Tigers we don’t have an Application completed or concrete commitment.  We need this as soon as we can, so we can start planning our Den meetings.

Hardin Ridge Campout July 20-22 2012

Wow! What a great weekend we had.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better bunch of Cub Scouts and Families.  Thank you to everyone for making our July Camp-out a great one.  I would like to give special thanks to the leaders who camped those who came to help lead Saturday activities.  THANK YOU!!

One person I forgot to mention at our Campfire Saturday was our Boy Scout helper,  Drew Webster.  Drew wasn’t able to stay Saturday for the Campfire, so I neglected to recognize him for all of his help with activities on Saturday.  Drew helped with our hike and our fishing as well as making rounds to check on the camping families Friday Night.  When you see him next, thank him for helping us out and giving back to Pack 121.

Karst Farm Park

What a great time we had at Karst Farm Park this past weekend!  Thank you leaders, families, and scouts for attending, helping and enjoying the activities.

Saturday was the first of 3 summer time events the Pack will be conducting.  By planning and delivering the 3 events the Pack can qualify for the National Summertime Pack Award and for scouts attending all three events they will qualify for the individual award.  Also, for each den who  has at least 50% attendance at all three events there is also a Den award.

We had a great turn out for June, July is our Camping weekend, and in August we are planning on having a joint Open House activity with the BSA Troop from the Church. Details on the July and August Events will be coming soon! The weather looks to be hot and dry for a while, so plan accordingly on all outdoor activities.

If you would like to receive our Pack Newsletter and are not currently receiving it (usually goes out second week of the month, following the Committee Meeting), you can sign up on this site via the Newsletter tab above.

See everyone soon!
